Attractions
estled
together at the north end of Roanoke Island, just two miles from
the Elizabethan Inn, are the serenely beautiful Elizabethan Gardens,
Fort Raleigh National Historic Site, and Waterside Theatre, home
of the longest running outdoor drama in America, The Lost Colony.
Nearby, on Airport Road, is the North Carolina Aquarium, which recently
underwent a major expansion.
Five minutes east of the Inn you’ll find kayak
rentals and a public boat ramp, as well as departures for dolphin
watches, sailboat cruises and kayak ecotours — all on the
Manteo waterfront. Nearby is the historic George Washington Creef
Boathouse, home of the NC Maritime Museum on Roanoke Island.
Across the bay is Roanoke Island Festival Park where
history, art and entertainment meet to excite young and old alike.
Board a 16th century reproduction sailing vessel. Experience 8,000
sq feet of hands-on interpretive exhibits covering 400 years of
Outer Banks heritage. View the film The Legend of Two-Path, which
tells a story of 16th century Native Americans on Roanoke Island.
Enjoy costumed interpreters, a soundside boardwalk, summer performances
in the outdoor pavilion and year round art exhibits. Also housed
at the park is the Outer Banks History Center, a research library.
Within the small town are galleries, specialty shops
and the landmark Pioneer Theatre, a family-oriented movie house
that also presents live daytime performances during the summer.
South of the Inn you’ll find the ever
popular Christmas Shop plus marinas, charter boats, and a fishing
village. We think you’ll be amazed at all our little island
has to offer!
